Prof. Jintong Lin earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Peking University, his master’s degree in Optical Communication from BUPT and his doctorate in Optoelectronics from Southampton University, UK.
He went to UK in 1985 and worked at Southampton University where he was one of team member of the Fiber Laser/Amplifier group, whose invention has been generally recognized as “a revolution in communication technology”. From 1990 to 1993, he served as Research Fellow of SERC at King’s College London. In 1993 he returned to China. Since then he has been working as full professor and taken a series of administrative positions as well.
From March of 1998 to the end of 2007, Prof. Jintong Lin has served as President of BUPT for about 10 years. During his presidency, he made a great contribution to making BUPT a first-class research-oriented university which enjoys national and international reputation.
Dedicated himself to research of optical communication for 31 years, Jintong Lin has published over 300 academic papers and presentations. He served as chairman or TPC chairman of international academic conference more than 10 times. Currently, he is the Standing Committee Member of the Science and Technique Advisory Committee in the Ministry of Information Industry, Vice Director of the China Institute of Commutations (CIC). He has won many academic awards in China and received many academic prizes and honorary titles from foreign countries, such as Fellow of IET, UK, the Electronics Divisional Board Premium for Best Electronics Letters, the Honorary Doctor of Science from University of Southampton and the Honorary Fellow of Queen Mary College, University of London.
