Title : Indoor Radio Positioning Systems
Abstract :

Indoor radio positioning systems have attracted a lot of attention from various sectors of our life, which include such as the health care, homeland security, tourism, and location based services. Many different technologies and systems have been proposed and developed. In this talk we will compare them to identify their advantages and disadvantages. The challenges and future directions will also be discussed and addressed.

Biography :

Dr Yi Huang received BSc in Physics (Wuhan), MSc in Microwave Engineering (Nanjing), and DPhil in Communications (Oxford, UK). He has been conducting research in the areas of radio communications, applied electromagnetics, and antennas over the past 20 years or so. His experience includes 3 years spent with NRIET (China) as a Radar Engineer and various periods with the Universities of Birmingham, Oxford, and Essex as a member of research staff. He worked as a Research Fellow at British Telecom Labs. He has published over 200 refereed international journals and conference papers, and is the principal author of the popular book Antennas: from Theory to Practice (John Wiley, 2008). Dr Huang has received many research grants from research councils, government agencies, charity, EU and industry, acted as a consultant to various companies, and served on a number of national and international technical committees (such as the UK Location & Timing KTN, IET, EPSRC, and European ACE) and been an Editor or Guest Editor of three of international journals. He has been an invited speaker at many conferences/workshops (including Oxford Engineering Programmes) and is the Leader of Focus Area D of European COST-IC0603, a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of IEE (now IET).  

Professor Huang joined the Department of Electrical Engineering & Electronics, the University of Liverpool as a faculty in 1995, where he is now the Head of High Frequency Engineering Research Group. His main research interests are in antennas, radio propagation, applied electromagnetics, radar, medical imaging, software radio, and indoor wireless communications.
